The Taunton Flyeris a brand new Sportive for 2014. It will take place on Saturday 10th May 2014 and offers you a choice of two routes, both starting and finishing at Taunton Racecourse. The ‘Dakota’ route covers 62 miles (100 km) and has approximately 2,800 ft (1100 m) of climb. The ‘Spitfire’ route covers 36 miles (54 km) and has approximately 2,300 ft (700 m) of climb. Details of these routes can be found under their respective route pages. The event will be electronically chip timed with both routes having age & gender categories. Medals will be awarded to all finishers.
In addition to the sportive age & gender categories we will also have an open ‘Vintage’ category for those who participate on Vintage Pedal Cycles, wearing themed / period costumes. The Taunton Flyer routes will take you past the wartime airfields of Dunkerswell, RAF Upottery (Smeatharpe), and Culmhead. The Dakota (100km) route will also take you past Exeter Airport. The theme of this event will be based on wartime Britain (1939-1945).
